Claire Liu is 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the main draws this year. The 21-year-old American player has mostly featured in the qualifying rounds, missing out on opportunities to reach more main draws.
Most recently, Liu fell to Lesia Tsurenko in the first qualifying round in Miami. She also failed to go past the qualifiers in Dubai, Qatar and Sydney.
She did well in Melbourne to start the season, qualifying for the tournament and then reaching the Round of 16 before losing a tough three-setter to Nuria Parrizas Diaz. She also fell in the first round of her Australian Open debut and then won her first match in Indian Wells against Viktoriya Tomova but fell to Cori Gauff in the second round.
The 2017 Junior Wimbledon champion and runner-up of the girls singles at the 2017 French Open, Liu has won six titles at the ITF level and all of them have come on clay.

Watson Comes in as Lucky Loser
World No. 105 Heather Watson has made to the main draw as a lucky loser.
The British player had won her first qualifying round against the United States’ Elizabeth Halbauer 6-3, 6-1 and then lost the second qualifying round to Ulrikke Eikeri 6-4, 6-4.
The 29-year-old, who has a better record on hard courts than other surfaces, is 2-6 in the main draws this year.
The two wins came in the first rounds of the Australian Open and the Monterrey Open. In the most recent tournaments, she qualified for both Indian Wells and Miami, but fell to Tereza Martincova and Belinda Bencic respectively.
Overall, Watson is 10-9 for the season.
