World No. 54 Ekaterina Alexandrova comes to Charleston with a 4-6 season record in 2022.
The 27-year-old will be playing in the tournament for the second time after having made a first-round exit in 2017.
More experienced on hard courts, Alexandrova won her only title in Shenzhen in 2020. She has also reached the finals on two other occasions, most recent of those came at the Kremlin Cup last year, which she lost to Annett Konatveit.
Alexandrova made two first round exits this year from Adelaide-1 and the Australian Open. She however won one and lost one in the four other tournaments.
In her most recent performances, she reached the second round at Indian Wells, going down in three sets to Simona Halep and also reached the second round in Miami, only to be beaten in three sets by Victoria Azarenka.
Overall, Alexandrova has a 41% win record on clay and might find the going tough in Charleston, although she will be hoping to win the first round.

Kiick Qualifies for the Main Draw
Facing Alexandrova will be the United States’ Allie Kiick, who made it to the main draw through the qualifiers.
The World no. 270, who has performed well on clay at the ITF level, defeated compatriot Jamie Loeb 6-4, 6-1 in the second qualifying round on Sunday to qualify for the main draw.
She had earlier beaten another American Desirae Krawczyk 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the first qualifying round.
The 26-year-old too hasn’t won two consecutive matches at any level this year. This will be her first tour-level main draw appearance in 2022.
A former World No. 126. Kiick has featured in 12 ITF finals in her career and has a 6-5 record in clay court finals.
