Alison Riske v Caty McNally Head to Head
It’s 2-0 to Riske with her most recent win coming in Indian Wells last month in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.

World No. 43 Alison Riske is enjoying one of the better starts to a season in her career. She is 9-7 so far with her best result coming in Adelaide 2 where she was the runner-up.
The 31-year-old most recently competed in the Miami Open where she reached the fourth round before bowing out to Naomi Osaka (3-6, 4-6). Before that, she made it to the BNP Paribas Open third round after upsetting Garbine Muguruza.
Riske started the 2022 tour with quite a bit of momentum from last year; she was a finalist at the Slovenia Open and later the champion in WTA Linz. That was her third title overall and her first one in over two years. The results followed a largely rocky year mired by loss of form and foot injury.
That said, things may get a bit challenging for Riske on the clay swing. She hasn’t got the best of records on this surface and in Charleston alone (her first time here since 2017), she has never made it beyond the second round.

McNally Hoping to Leverage Doubles Success
Catherine McNally may be just 20 years old but don’t let that fool you from the threat she poses. She is the current doubles world number 11 and the reigning US Open Women’s Doubles runner-up with Coco Gauff.
Most recently, she won the doubles title in St. Petersburg with Anna Kalinskaya while with Gauff, she reached the semis in the Miami Open doubles.
Admittedly, McNally’s form on the singles circuit hasn’t been near half as impressive. She is currently ranked #164 and her highlight of the season is reaching the main draw at the Indian Wells Open as a qualifier. She lost her opening bout to Riske.
For what it’s worth, the youngster was a doubles champion here in Charleston last season with Hailey Baptiste. Perhaps, she can tap into that success on clay.
Riske v McNally Prediction and Tip
Riske has the experience and momentum; McNally has the energy and a slightly better ability to handle clay courts. Riske will start as the favourite but may very well find herself in a long match.
