Rebecca Peterson v Tatjana Maria Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between Peterson and Maria. In the first, which came at the 2016 Wimbledon, Maria had defeated Peterson in straight sets to enter the main draw of the competition.

Having last featured in competitive tennis in early February, Peterson’s return to the WTA circuit saw her clinch a straight-set win in the opener here in Bogota.
The 26-year-old Swede registered a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Maria Fernanda Herazo Gonzalez in her opening round encounter, needing just over an hour and a half to get there.
Peterson lost her serve early in the opening set to fall 2-4 behind but then racked up four successive games to clinch it from behind.
The second set also began in somewhat similar fashion with Herazo breaking Peterson but the Swede turned things around with successive breaks of serves and a 4-2 lead. She served things out to love to clinch the encounter in straight sets and set up this meeting with Maria.
Can the Swede make it two in two, having yet to go beyond the second round in any of the competitions she had played before her break in February?

Maria Eases Past Maria
Former world number 46 Maria needed to win a couple of qualifying rounds to make the main draw before cruising through to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Maria Lourdes Carle in her opener.
The German who is now ranked 237th in the world, was on court for a mere hour and 14 minutes against the fellow qualifier and broke her four times in the encounter. In turn, she had three break-points against her too but saved each of them.
In winning this match, Maria had gone past the first round of a WTA competition for the first time since March 2020 – yep, more than two years ago.
She has had a decent run on the ITF circuit this year but with her form at the highest level showing signs of shakiness, it could difficult for Maria to test out Peterson.

Peterson might not have played a lot of tennis in recent times but still should have enough fire in her tank to take this in straight sets.
