Reilly Opelka v Mitchell Krueger Head to Head
This will be their first tour-level meeting. They have met thrice at the qualifying rounds with Opelka leading 2-1.

Third seed Reilly Opelka comes to Houston in solid form, but the World No. 18 has not won a main draw match in the tournament in three attempts.
Most of Opelka’s better results have come on hard courts, but a run to the semifinals on clay in Rome last year would have given him a lot of confidence and he will be looking for more success on the surface this year.
And with a 13-6 record this year, which already includes a title and a runner-up finish, Opelka will feel he has a good chance of going a long way in Houston.
The big-serving 6’11” American captured his third career title with a win in Dallas and finished runner-up in Delray Beach this year. He was also a semifinalist in Sydney and reached the Round of 16 in Indian Wells. He couldn’t finish his opening match in Miami against Francisco Cerundolo, retiring in the second set.

Krueger Advances After Varillas Retirement
Qualifier Mitchell Krueger continued his march forward in the tournament after Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas retired in the first round, while trailing 1-5 in the first set.
Krueger had beaten Australia’s Matthew Ebden 7-5, 6-1 in the first qualifying round and then defeated compatriot Michael Mmoh 6-3, 6-3 in the second qualifying round to move into the main draw of a tour-level clay court event for the first time in his career.
Ranked no. 161 in the world, the 28-year-old has a 22-34 record at the Challenger level on the surface and has won two titles on clay at the ITF level.
Overall he improved to 2-3 in the main draws this season, with his previous win coming over Jordan Thompson in Delray Beach.
