Before coming into this tournament, Lizarazo had shown some promise on the ITF tour but having never made it into the top 300 of the WTA rankings there wasn’t too much expected out of her.
This was exemplified by Lizarazo’s lack of experience playing at the highest level with a main draw appearance on the WTA circuit having last come in 2016. A wild-card entrant then, she had lost in the first round six years ago.
This time around, however, Lizarazo has managed to cause quite an upset, defeating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in three sets to make the second round.
And it wasn’t a straightforward victory either. Lizarazo was down a set and 0-2 in the second, faced a match-point on Schmiedlova’s serve at 5-4 in the second and went on to clinch the tie-breaker that followed 7-1.
In the third, Lizarazo ran away to a 4-0 lead before stalling a mini fightback from her opponent to carve out the victory.

Bjorklund Registers Rare Main Draw Win
Much like her second round opponent, Bjorkland hasn’t won a lot on the WTA tour. Which is also why a first round victory over Renata Zarazua was much to write home about, and more so because of the ease in which the Swede won it.
Bjorkland registered a 6-1, 6-3 win, with the match lasting a mere hour and six minutes.
Winning a healthy 22 of her 35 first serve and seven of 10 second serve points, Bjorkland faced just four break-points in the entire match while breaking Zarazua six times in the process.
Zarazua showed some fight in the second set by breaking in the very first game but the fight did not last too long after that.
Before this, Bjorkland’s only performance of note this season had come on the ITF circuit, with the Swede making it to the semifinal in Porto. Can she now make it two wins in a row?
Lizarazo v Bjorklund Prediction and Tip
This has Bjorkland starting out as a favourite and while Lizarazo did seal a win against a top 100 player in her opener it had come against someone struggling for form. Expect Bjorkland to win in two.
