Lauren Davis v Coco Vandeweghe Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players including one as recently as previous year in this very tournament and Davis has won every single one of them. In fact Davis is yet to lose a set to Vandeweghe.

Davis Coming off Strong Opening Win

After having made it as far as the third round in Miami as a qualifier, Davis kick-started her season campaign on clay with a strong first round win over Mariam Bolkvadze.

Davis was a 6-2, 6-3 victor over her Georgian opponent, needing a mere hour and 26 minutes to get past Bolkvadze.

Getting 72% of her first serves in, Davis won 58% of those points and while she was broken twice in the match, the American dished out the same treatment six times to her opponent.

Overall too, Davis is known for her performances on clay, having won four of her ITF titles on this surface. Two of her most famous wins, over players ranked in the top 10 at that stage, have also come on clay, against Eugenie Bouchard and Sofia Kenin. Can she now make it two in two?

Vandeweghe Finally Records a Main Draw Win

Once ranked in the top 10, Vandeweghe has fallen to 168th in the world and her struggles can be seen from the fact she hadn’t won a main draw in a WTA250 or above event since Wimbledon last year.

And even at this event, she might not have won any main draw matches had it not been for a few withdrawals. Because Vandeweghe qualified for the tournament as a lucky loser following her qualifying defeat at the hands of Gabriela Lee.

In her opener against Anastasia Gasanova, however, Vandeweghe managed to overturn the odds to register a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win and march into the second round.

The match lasted two hours and 28 minutes with Vandeweghe managing to overturn a 0-3 deficit in the first set to complete the victory.

Can she match up to Davis in the same manner come round two?

Davis v Vandeweghe Prediction and Tip

While Vandeweghe showed great resolve in getting past Gasanova in her opener, it might not be that easy for her against Davis. Expecting Davis to win in three.

Tip: Davis to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
