Beatriz Haddad Maia is having an excellent year so far and it’s allowed her to jump all the way up to number 54 in the world. Rakhimova Patiently Improving
Kamilla Rakhimova was expected to break out in a major fashion in 2022 yet the Russian so far has struggled with that goal. It’s been mostly okay tennis from here and a slow and steady rise which is by no means a terrible thing. Consistency is something each player strives for and she’s been pretty consistent with her play.
It’s nothing special but it’s good enough for a couple of wins here and there.
So far this year in 14 matches it’s been 7 wins and 7 defeats. Clay is a pretty solid surface for her and she will have expectations of herself. Whether she can do it remains to be seen but a match against Haddad Maia will be a tough test.
Haddad Maia v Rakhimova Prediction and Tip
They have played once before and it came a few months ago in Doha. It was on hard courts and Haddad Maia won that match easily 6-1 6-3. Now on clay, the Brazilian is expected to win it again, especially since in theory she is more comfortable on the surface. Recent form has been on the side of the Brazilain as well and generally, she seems like the better player.
Both have played matches in round one and both exorcised some demons taking 3 sets against their opponents. I expect we might see another three-setter here as Rakhimova can grind opponents down but Haddad Maia has the bigger game. The match will be on her racquet and I expect her to pull through.
