Belinda Bencic v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head
They played four times before with two matches coming in 2019 and two last year. Each player won two matches with the most recent one won by Bencic.

Belinda Bencic has had an interesting season so far with the Swiss player getting back to winning way recently. She’s had a very good outing in Miami reaching the semifinal and she’s continued to build on that in Charleston. A couple of impressive showings on clay with wins over Madison Keys and Paula Badosa certainly prove that.
Bencic does not play her best on clay because he’s more inclined to hard courts but in Charleston that certainly has not been the case. She’s been playing rather well on the faster type of clay and that might have something to do with it. She certainly can play well on red clay but oftentimes produced a weak performance that gets her beaten.
She’s 13-6 on the year with four of those wins coming this week in Charleston. It’s been rather impressive as she was able to defeat Badosa as well, a player she never beaten before.

Alexandrova’s Dream Weak in Charleston
Ekaterina Alexandrova has always been a very strong clay player but she’s taken it a level further this week taking down player after player in a rather comfortable fashion. None of those players that she’s beaten has been in particularly strong form prior to this event but that does not take away from her stellar play.
She’s only 8-6 on the year with half of those wins coming this week which indicates that her season has not been going that well. It also means she’s playing with a lot of confidence right now and that can do wonders for her. SHe’s always been a tricky player to beat capable of producing some mesmerizing performances.
Can she do it once more to defeat Bencic, let’s find out.
Bencic v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip
Alexandrova has beaten Bencic twice before but one match stands out in particular. It was played last year in Stuttgart and the Russian won it 6-1 7-5. It was on clay but indoor clay and Alexandrova has always been a strong indoor player. Can she do it on a different type of clay in Charleston?
I think she can but I’m not sure she will be able to do so. Bencic has been very impressive this week but she’s been playing a lot of tennis. She’s also in the doubles event and that fatigue might play a factor at some point. I do think that Alexandrova will keep it close so a 3-setter is probably expected.
If I had to choose who will emerge victorious at the end of it, it would be Bencic. I’ve been so impressed by her this week.
