Pedro Martinez has played some smashing good tennis this season and his record of 12-7 on the year proves just that. Victories have come across the board and are not only reserved for clay courts and that’s a positive development for the Spaniard who has been improving for a while.
Clay is still his best surface and that’s something that should suit him well moving forward in the next couple of months. Martinez could accumulate quite a bit of points that would allow him to climb even further on the rankings and that’s a clear goal for him.
A good draw in Monte-Carlo aids that aspiration and Humbert is certainly a player he should be defeating regularly on the red dirt.

Poor Form, Covid and Other Issues for Humbert
Ugo Humbert is not having a very good season and that’s why he almost dropped outside of the top 50. The French player was pretty close to making his top 15 debut many many months ago but now he’s nearly out of the top 50.
It did not happen overnight and a positive covid test in Melbourne completely derailed his season. Since then it’s been a struggle to compete at the highest level as he admitted that he’s had breathing problems and similar consequences since then.
Things will hopefully improve moving forward but Humbert is not a very good clay player. He’s never been a good one and a 1-6 record last year on the surface proves just that.

So the odds indicate that Martinez is the heavy favourite and it’s pretty clear why. He’s comfortable on clay and his opponent is not. That’s pretty much the sum of the matchup right there but we will go a bit in-depth. Humbert has struggled with his form all year long and he’s 2-7 on the year.
I don’t see this improving this weak as he was 1-6 on clay last year and that was without the struggles he’s enduring this season. Martinez is far better on the surface and has played rather well on it this year so expect that to continue here as well.
