David Goffin is 5-0 on clay this year and it comes after a brilliant week in Marrakech where the Belgian battled his way to the trophy. It was a literal battle as Goffin had to win a couple of very long and physical matches to do it.
That could be troublesome in a short turnaround for Monte-Carlo.
The Belgian generally has had quite a bit of success in the Principality due to him living there for several years and playing on those very courts for years. He’s generally a pretty solid clay player and with the recent form he picked up it could be very good for him.
Can he shrug off the short turnaround time though?

Lehecka and Consistency
Jiri Lehecka had a mini breakout earlier in the year at the Rotterdam Open reaching the deep stages of the event after coming through the qualifiers. The Czech player has been on the cusp of breaking out for a few months now and now he has finally started to do it.
He’s inside the top 100 and he’s been pretty consistent this year albeit nothing special. He’s 14-9 on the year which is in line with how he has played. In every event, he scores a win but he can’t string together four or five.
He entered the main draw through the qualifiers with some solid play overall beating players that were favoured against him.
Goffin v Lehecka Prediction and Tip
We have two players that enter this contest with winning streaks. Goffin is playing great but so is Lehecka. The Czech player experienced the conditions this week but Goffin knows these courts well. It’s going to be very interesting and it’s going to be very hard to predict what might happen.
I seriously worry about the load Goffin had to endure in Marrakech in pretty warm conditions. It’s going to take a toll on the player that’s not really the youngest either. He’s not been playing much high-level tennis in the past months either so we might see a tough battle.
That makes me believe we might see a three-setter or at least a match with dozens of games played. Keep an eye on those totals for games as it’s something to think about. If I had to choose one winner I would lean Goffin.
