Cristian Garin endured a very rough start to the 2022 season due to an elbow injury that gave him so many issues in the past few months that an emotional Garin explained he was considering calling it quits after an early exit in Santiago.
After showing some promise during the Sunshine double he finally found some form in Houston taking down a couple of good tennis player en route to a controversial defeat against John Isner. He’s still only 6-8 on the year but recent displays have shown promise.
Garin is generally a very good clay player having grown up on the surface. He will look to build upon that result in Houston with a strong showing in the Principality and Ruusuvuori is a measure opponent as the Finnish player is far from at his best on clay.

Ruusuvuori 2-0 on Clay
Emil Ruusuvuori certainly did not expect to start the season 2-0 on clay but he’ll take it. The Finnish player is not a fan of the surface and it’s no secret. He tries his best as he usually does but a player whose game is built around his serve will have certain issues on the surface.
Both of the wins came against qualifiers but both Gianluca Mager and Flavio Cobolli are very good clay tennis players.
These wins were earned and Ruusuvuori will certainly take a lot of confidence into the first round of the main draw.

They never played before but we have a player who is comfortable on clay in Garin and one that is not in Ruusuvuri. Generally, per rule, the more comfortable player wins that match and I expect Garin to win this one as well. It’s a tricky match because it’s unknown whether the shoulder still bothers Garin so be careful.
The odd is certainly nothing to be too excited about so definitely be careful about this. Ruusuvuori knows the conditions and it could matter cause there has been quite a bit of wind in the previous days. Garin is flying over from Houston and he will take some time.
