Felix Augur-Aliassime v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, both matches taking place last year on clay. Augur-Aliassime won their first encounter in Barcelona, but Musetti got his revenge a few months later in Lyon.

Augur-Aliassime Finally Breaks His Duck in 2022

Augur-Aliassime shrugged off his reputation of being a perpetual runner-up by finally winning his first ATP final at the ninth attempt in February in Rotterdam, before going on to lose in the final in Marseille the following week.

He has made finals on all surfaces, although his record in Monte Carlo is poor, a second round appearance three years ago the best he has managed in the Principality.

A bye in the first round means that he has at least emulated that, but he will want to do better than he did in Marrakesh last week in his first clay court event of the year where he was the top seed.

He was given an easy enough starter against the local wildcard, Elliot Benchetrit, but then was surprised by Alex Molcan of Slovakia, the world number 50, losing in a third set tie-break, despite holding a match point at one stage.

Musetti Showing Belated Signs of Form

Musetti, after months of toil on tour, has belatedly shown flashes of the form that saw him reach the fourth round of the French Open last year and go on to qualify for the NextGen ATP finals in Milan.

Back on his favourite surface of clay, he achieved his best result of the year so far last week in Marrakesh, reaching the quarter-finals before losing to the world number 62, Laslo Djere of Serbia.

And he will be pleased with how he battled past Benoît Paire of France, the world number 61, in the first round in Monte Carlo on Tuesday.

Musetti began strongly and three breaks as opposed to one enabled him to take the first set.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set, and then again, but it was Paire who went on to win the subsequent tie-break.

The Italian though, shrugged that off, broke the Frenchman midway through the third set, and again when he was serving to stay in the match.

Augur-Aliassime v Musetti Prediction and Tip

Although they have an even head-to-head record, Augur-Aliassime is the seed and in much the better form, so he is tipped to advance to the next round.
