Alexander Zverev v Pablo Carreno Busta Head to Head

It’s 2-0 to Zverev; he last defeated Busta in the semifinal of the 2020 US Open in five sets.

Zverev Knocks Out Delbonis

World No. 3 Alexander Zverev is off to a great beginning at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters, defeating Federico Delbonis 6-1, 7-5.

He is now 15-5 this season while most recently, he reached the quarterfinal in the Miami Open. That, and a runner-up feat in Montpellier have been among the better notes of his season so far.

There have been moments so far when the 24-year-old Zverev has been tested; he has been beaten by players like Alexander Bublik, Peter Gojowczyk, Tommy Paul, and Thiago Monteiro. Amidst this, Pablo Carreno Busta clearly makes for a demanding match.

In all fairness, Zverev has a decent chance of winning this one. He has eight clay finals to his name (six titles) and is the reigning Madrid Open champion.

That said,  he has never made it past the second round in his last three attempts here. Will the fourth time be a charm?

Busta Survives Bublik

Pablo Carreno Busta found himself in another challenging game – this time with Alexander Bublik. The Spaniard had to fight back and managed to reach 4-6, 7-6(3), 4-3 before Bublik retired from the match with an illness.

Busta got a well-earned walkover into round three but back to back three-setters may take a toll.

Currently ranked World No. 19, the number 13 seed is now 11-6 and hasn’t really had an impressive year so far. Apart from reaching the final in the ATP Cup, Carreno Busta had to settle for early exits in Acapulco, Miami, Indian Wells, and Rio.

As for his form on clay, he has seen his fair share of good wins with his biggest title coming in the ATP 500 Hamburg last season. The 30-year-old is also a two-time quarterfinalist at the French Open.

Zverev v Busta Prediction and Tip

This one has all the makings of being a long match; Zverev will start as the odds-on favourite but Busta can fight. As for how far the Spaniard can go, it will depend on how quickly he manages to subdue his German adversary. Endurance will be the key here and Zverev has the advantage.
