A decent clay court player, Marton Fucsovics will be making his fourth main draw appearance in Barcelona. The Hungarian, ranked no. 57 in the world, is yet to go past the second round of the tournament, having reached that far in 2016 (as a qualifier) and 2019.
The 30-year-old, who won his only tour-level title on clay in Geneva in 2018, has lacked consistency this season and comes to Barcelona with an 8-10 season record.
Fucsovics appeared in two quarterfinals this season, falling to Andrey Rublev in Rotterdam and Nikoloz Basilashvili in Doha. Last week, he won his first round match at the Monte-Carlo Masters against Lloyd Harris but fell to Diego Schwartzman in the second round.
Overall, the Hungarian has a 34-30 record on clay at the tour level and will look to improve that in Barcelona.

Can Thompson Deliver on Clay?
Jordan Thompson is headed for his second Barcelona Open. The 27-year-old Australian beat Richard Gasquet but lost to Pablo Carreno Busta in his only appearance in 2019.
Ranked No. 86, Thompson brings a 7-8 season record to the tournament. He was a quarterfinalist in Dallas and has won his first round match on six of the eight tournaments he has featured in this season. The two times he fell in the first round were at the Australian Open and the Delray Beach Open.
Thompson is 1-1 on clay in 2022, having lost in the second round to Cristian Garin in Houston earlier this month.
The Australian has never been a threat on clay as he prefers playing on faster surfaces. A good start in Barcelona can do a world of good to his confidence.

Fucsovics is a better player on clay and he should start with a win, setting up a second round meeting with 15th seed Federico Delbonis, who has a first-round bye.
