Humbert in Terrible Form

It has been a terrible season so far for Ugo Humbert, with the Frenchman winning just two matches and losing eight ahead of the Barcelona Open. He suffered his most recent setback in the first round of the Monte Carlo Open, falling to Spain’s Pedro Martínez in straight sets.

The 23-year-old left-hander’s two wins this season came against Daniil Medvedev at the ATP Cup and Aljaz Bedene in Miami.

Humbert, who captured his third ATP title in Halle last year, is more comfortable playing on hard and grass courts. He finds the going tough on clay and a 6-14 career record on the surface is a proof of that.

Coming back to form in Barcelona will be a huge ask for the Frenchman, who was 1-6 on clay last season and is 0-1 on the surface this year.

Andujar Looking to Start Well

2015 Barcelona Open finalist Pablo Andujar comes to the 2022 edition with a 7-6 season record. A clay court specialist, the 36-year-old has won four titles and finished runner-up on five occasions at the tour level with all nine final appearances coming on his favourite surface.

This year, Andujar is 4-3 on clay on the tour, with his best being a last eight appearance in Rio, where he defeated the higher ranked Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the Round of 16.

An 11-time campion from 20 Challenger finals, Andujar made it to the semifinals of the Marbella Challenger this season before being shocked by Argentina’s Pedro Cachin.

Ranked no. 80, the Spaniard’s last tournament saw him beat Daniel Evans in the first round in Marrakech but he fell in round 2 to David Goffin.

Andujar is 12-7 in Barcelona. In 2015, he won five on the trot to reach the final, but couldn’t win the title after losing in straight sets to Kei Nishikori. Last year, he won his first round match but lost in the Round of 32. How far can he go this season?

Humbert v Andujar Prediction and Tip

Humbert’s poor form and his struggles on clay give a sense that he would continue to struggle in Barcelona. And since he starts against the vastly experienced Andujar on what is the Spaniard’s favourite surface his chances of advancing become even more bleak. Expect Andujar to advance with a straight sets win.

Tip: Andujar to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
