Ajla Tomljanovic v Alison Van Uytvanck Head to Head

Tomljanovic leads the Belgian 3-1. One of those meetings was in Istanbul in 2018, which the Australian won in straight sets.

Van Uytvanck’s only win came in Luxembourg in 2017. This will be their first meeting since Seoul in 2018.

Tomljanovic Struggling in 2022

Last year’s Wimbledon quarterfinalist, Ajla Tomljanovic has been struggling this season. She comes to Istanbul with a 4-8 record in the main draws this season and a 6-9 record including qualifiers.

The World No. 41 will be making her third appearance in Istanbul and has won just one match previously and that was against Van Uytvanck in 2018. She lost in the second round in that edition and made a first round exit in 2019.

While she has a better record on faster courts, one of her four WTA finals was on clay, when she reached the title clash in Rabat in 2018. And just like the other three finals she lost that as well, finishing runner-up to Elise Mertens.

This year, Tomljanovic has appeared in just one clay court tournament. She beat America’s Sophie Chang in the first round of the Charleston Open but fell to Irina-Camelia Begu in the second round.

The 28-year-old has not won two matches in a row this season and will look to change that stat in Istanbul.

Van Uytvanck Went 0-6 on Clay Last Year

World no. 59 Alison Van Uytvanck will be playing her first tournament on clay this season and will be hoping for a better showing on the surface this season after she lost all six of her matches on clay last year.

The Belgian is 5-7 in the main tournaments and 6-8 including qualifiers this season, and that includes a quarterfinal finish in Lyon.

The 28-year-old last played at the Miami Open, losing her first round match to Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in three sets.

A five-time champion on the tour, Van Uytvanck last won a title at the Astana Open last year. While she does well on hard courts, she has struggled to deliver on clay courts throughout her career. She did reach one WTA 125k final on clay in Karsruhe, Germany in 2019 but nothing much to show apart from that.

Tomljanovic v Van Uytvanck Prediction and Tip

Tomljanovic has dominated the rivalry and she will be the favourite to win this contest, particularly because it’s a clay court affair.
