Tereza Martincova v Anna Bondar Head to Head

It’s 1-0 to Martincova who last defeated Bondar in the 2019 WTA Lugano qualifiers. The Czech won that match in three sets.

Martincova Eyeing a Good Clay Start

World No. 49 Tereza Martincova will look to turn around her recent loss in the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers to Emma Raducanu here in Istanbul. The 27-year-old Czech lost that one in straight sets.

Historically, Martincova hasn’t been particularly comfortable on clay; last season, her best result on the surface came in Bogota when she reached round two. She hasn’t made it past the same stage in the French Open too.

Her form this season has been largely along the same lines – at least in the singles discipline. Martincova’s best run was in the successive events in St. Petersburg and Doha where she reached the third round. On the doubles circuit, she reached two finals in Melbourne and Adelaide.

Martincova is now on a three-match losing streak and taking on Bondar may just make it four.

Bondar, Relying on Clay Experience

World No. 72 Anna Bondar is hunting for her breakthrough run on the WTA Tour and she just might have the chance to do so here.

The 24-year-old Hungarian has made great strides on the tour – she is now at a career-best ranking after starting the year in the early 90s. With a tally of 9-9, Bondar has had a couple of good runs in Lyon and Melbourne 1. She won a good few matches in both events, defeating the likes of Katerina Siniakova and Katie Boulter.

That said, she isn’t the most consistent player on the tour but the switch to clay should help her. She was in good spirits when she took on Ziva Falkner in the ITF Group games for Hungary and won in straight sets.

Bondar also won her maiden WTA title on clay in the Buenos Aires Challenger last season and has an impressive 16 ITF clay finals (21 overall).

Martincova v Bondar Prediction and Tip

Martincova is the odds-on favourite but Bondar’s chances of winning this one are quite good. She is comfortable on clay and more importantly, has a proven track record on the surface. The Hungarian does make for a good underdog bet – especially at the odds at which she is available.

But on the safer side, this match has all the makings of being a long one. Martincova is a spirited player and will make things as difficult she can for her adversary.
