Fabio Fognini v Aljaz Bedene Head to Head

They played ten times so far with Fognini leading 9-1. The latest one came in 2019 in Cordoba with Fognini winning 6-1 6-4.

Critical Part of Season for Fognini

Fabio Fognini lost a lot of points last week after a short run in Monte-Carlo and the Italian is now ranked outside of the top 60. Those are dangerous waters for Fognini who has played lacklustre tennis for a while now. There have been injuries and other stuff but generally, Fognini just seems disinterested in tennis at times.

That was the case in round 1 against Marco Cecchinato where Fognini barely won. His compatriot has been one of the worst-performing players in recent months and even so, Fognini flirted with a defeat a couple of times. He was simply not focused enough the entire match because when he was he outplayed him quite easily.

For Fognini it has always been his motivation. If he’s motivated he’s a top 10 type of player, if not he’s awful. Lately, it’s been the latter so his record on the year is only 9-7. He is capable of far more.

First Win of the Year for Bedene

Aljaz Bedene played only three matches in 2022 as the Slovenian player struggled with injuries a lot in the past few months. Bedene scored his first win of the year in the first round against Mikhail Kukushkin and it was a good thing for the former top 50 player. His ranking suffered greatly so far this year as he’s ranked only 164th in the world.

He is obviously a much better player than that but it will take him time to find his rhythm and start winning matches consistently. The third time was the charm for him in Belgrade but now it’s about keeping that consistency moving forward.

Playing on clay has never been his favourite although his record on the surface is pretty good. He will need to play well in hopes of getting back into the top 100.

Fognini v Bedene Prediction and Tip

It’s never healthy to bet on Fognini because he Italian is everything but consistent. He can beat anyone and he can lose to anyone it just comes down to which Fognini shows up. He flirted with a loss against Cecchinato and I would not be shocked if he does that again.

His opponent is someone who he defeated many times before being especially dominant on clay so he should have the upper hand once more. Bedene is still far away from his peak form so taking this match will require quite an effort. I will back Fognini to win this match but be aware that it might get messy.

Tip: Fognini to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
