Aryna Sabalenka v Paula Badosa Head to Head

Badosa leads 2-0 over Sabalenka with both those wins coming in 2021. This, however, will be their first clay meeting.

Sabalenka Dismantles Kontaveit

Aryna Sabalenka is rediscovering her form in Stuttgart as she continues to build on her recent success. After beating Bianca Andreescu in the opening match in three sets, she dismissed the number five seed Anett Kontaveit 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

It was an intriguing affair as Sabalenka relied on her massive service game and sheer strength to subdue the Estonian. On the back of 10 aces and a 75% first-service win rate, she sailed to her first semifinal of the season. Of course, the fact that she had a 4-0 advantage over Kontaveit also helped her case.

Currently ranked World No. 4, the 23-year-old has had her trysts with form in 2022. Her record now stands at a mediocre 9-8 with her sole highlight coming in Doha when she reached the quarterfinal. She also reached the fourth round in the Australian Open.

However, in Miami and Indian Wells, she was stunned in her opening matches – respectively by Irina-Camelia Begu and Jasmine Paolini. In Charleston, she incurred a similar result – this time at the hands of Amanda Anisimova in the round of 16.

The number three seed has a rich pedigree on singles and doubles circuits and as the runner-up here in 2021 (and later winning the Madrid Open), she is more than familiar and comfortable with the turf.

Badosa Outlasts Jabeur

Spanish No. 1 Paula Badosa found herself in a tricky match with Ons Jabeur. It was a wild affair that went Badosa’s way with 7-6(9), 1-6, 6-3. While Jabeur had some phenomenal techniques and superb drop shots, she fell just shy of her opponent’s superior strength. Perhaps, it was also the fact that the crowd was supporting the Spaniard.

Nonetheless, the fact remains that Badosa is now in her third semifinal of the season; she went the distance in Sydney while in the BNP Paribas Open, she lost to Maria Sakkari in the final four.

Before coming to Stuttgart, the 24-year-old (who is now ranking World No. 3) did reach the quarterfinal in Charleston to start her clay season on a positive note.

On the whole, she is more than comfortable on clay with this being her favourite surface. Last season, Badosa ended the year with an impressive 43-17 – giving Sabalenka plenty of reasons to be cautious here.

Sabalenka v Badosa Prediction and Tip

We are looking at another long match that can go to three sets. This will be a close game as both players are heavy-hitters and enjoy an exceptionally brilliant service game. Plus, Sabalenka and Badosa are both in the top five and when a match of this intensity goes down, anything can happen.
