The pair have never played each other once before. This will be the first match between Kohlschreiber, who is now 38, and Altmaier, who is 15 years younger.

Two Time Tournament Winner Kohlschreiber

Kohlschreiber is now at the tail end of a long career, that has seen him win eight career senior titles, six of them on clay, and appear in a further ten finals.

Over the years he has an excellent record in this tournament, winning it in 2007 and again in 2012, and twice finishing runner-up.

The most recent of those defeats back in 2018, was his last ATP final of any sort.

He does not play as much as he used to, and his best performance of the year to date came in aChallenger tournament in Marbella at the end of March, on clay, where he got to the quarter-finals.

This week he has been given a wildcard into the main draw in Munich.

Altmaier Achieving Success on Challenger Tour

Four finals on the Challenger tour in 2021, three of which were won, helped propel Altmaier into the top 100, and he has continued in that vein this year, finishing runner-up to the American Denis Kudla in March in Phoenix.

That was a hard court event, but the first two of last year’s wins were on clay, and on German soil into the bargain.

On the main tour, his best result of the year came back in February in Pune, where he got to the quarter-finals before losing to the eventual winner of the tournament, Joao Sousa of Portugal.

He last competed in a Challenger event on clay in Prague, where he reached the second round, but would have been disappointed then to lose to local player, Jonas Forejtek, ranked more than 200 places below him in the world.

Kohlscreiber v Altmaier Prediction and Tip

Kohlschreiber may be a two time winner of this event and finished runner-up twice more, but Altmaier has 15 years on him, and superior fitness should tell, especially if the match drags on for a while.

Tip: Altmaier to win: 7/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
