Iga Swiatek v Aryna Sabalenka Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two and both have won one apiece. Sabalenka won their first in 2021 at the WTA Finals before Swiatek followed it up with the revenge at Doha earlier this season.

Swiatek on Unprecedented Roll

The last time Swiatek lost a competitive tennis match was in the third week of February when she went down to Jelena Ostapenko in Dubai.

Since then, a title at Doha without dropping a set, a couple of tournament victories in Indian Wells and Miami and two Billie Jean King Cup wins rocketed her successive win count to 19.

And the switch over to clay has been a natural one for Swiatek too.

After back to back wins over Eva Lys and Emma Raducanu in straight sets, Swiatek overcame Ludmilla Samsonova in the semifinal, in one of those rare hard-fought matches she had to endure.

Swiatek came through 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5 to reach the final, making her record swell up to 22 victories in a row. The match lasted more than three hours – one of the longest the Pole has played in recent times – but in the end she came through after breaking Samsonova in the 12th game of the final set.

Can this longish encounter come as a wakeup call for the world number one?

Sabalenka Finally Showing Old Signs

For a player who was ranked second in the world not too long ago, a set of results like the ones Sabalenka has had this season can barely be called par for the course. In fact the better word to describe a 7-8 win-loss record for the season before this tournament, would be underwhelming.

Which is why winning three in a row to get herself to a final would come as a welcome relief for Sabalenka.

More so because of the pedigree of the opponents she has overcome – starting off with Bianca Andreescu and Anett Kontaveit in the first two rounds and then shocking Paula Badosa in the semifinal.

Sabalenka needed an hour and 42 minutes to get past the world number three, Badosa, winning 7-6 (5), 6-4.

The question now is whether Sabalenka can make it four victories in a row for the first time this year.

Swiatek v Sabalenka Prediction and Tip

It looks like Swiatek might get a tad stretched by Sabalenka’s regaining confidence but that might not be enough to break the Pole’s record. Win number 23 coming up for Swiatek.
