van de Zandschulp is Solid But Not Great

Botic van de Zandschulp broke out in a very interesting manner last year solidifying himself as a Tour-level player instead of a challenger player which he was for the better part of his career. Since then he has mostly been very good but not great.

There are no major results but it’s mostly been okay results overall. He is 10-9 on the year which is in line with the whole ‘good not great’ mantra. The Dutch player will enter this clay season with some hope as he has played quite a bit on the surface in the past.

He was 26-11 last year and he has a quarterfinal in Marrakech earlier this year. He lost to Sebastian Korda in Monte-Carlo. That are some signs of promise and he will look to build upon that in Munich.

Good Clay Start for Nakashima

Bradon Nakashima is a next-gen player from America who showed some promise on the Tour level this year and last year. The American is a part of a new generation of American players who actually can play on the red dirt. Americans used to be allergic to that surface in the past but not anymore.

He made his clay debut in Barcelona last week taking down a native Spanish talent before bowing out to Casper Ruud.

It was a good effort against Ruud but the Norwegian was simply too strong. Nakashima has a 7-9 record on the year as it’s been a bit shaky so far but he is very young and he will only grow.

van de Zandschulp v Nakashima Prediction and Tip

So this is a very interesting matchup between two players who would be very close on hard courts. Even on clay, I think we will see a proper fight but one is far more experienced on the surface and that matters. Nakashima scored a win last week but that was against a player who is far below his below.

Botic is right there and on hard courts, the American would maybe have an edge, especially on native soil but on clay I think Botic is better. We still might see a close match, we might even see 3 sets but I don’t think Nakashima has it in him to score the win in Munich.

Tip: van de Zandshulp to win in straight sets: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
