Marcos Giron v Hugo Gaston Head to Head

They never played against each other.

Giron’s Battle With Consistency

Marcos Giron has not been having a very good year this far and his year will most likely become even worse during the clay season. The American is a player who has a typical style for players coming from the United States. A powerful and strong serve with a signature shot that in his case is the forehand.

Giron has never been a very good clay player and most of his success has come on hard courts. Even so, he is able to get a few wins here and there if you give him a chance. So far this year’s it’s been a proper struggle with consistency as he has a 6-11 score on the year.

The last time he won consecutive matches was in Acapulco many weeks ago. Since then he has been on an active 6-game losing streak that simply highlights his struggles.

Gaston Looking for some Work

Hugo Gaston has always played his best tennis on clay. He is a very skilled drop-shotter and he employed that tactic very well during his French Open breakout when he bested Dominic Thiem.

He moves well and is rather quickly around the court but his shorter than average stature for a tennis player makes him very vulnerable on fast courts.

So far this year it’s been a struggle with a 4-10 record but things should change quite a bit on clay. He posted a 32-16 record on the surface last year which is pretty decent and he will certainly look to be even better this year. His struggles arise against very attacking players and he has a very tricky time dealing with them.

Giron v Gaston Prediction and Tip

They never played before so it’s a bit tricky trying to predict how this match will pan out. Obviously, Gaston is far more comfortable on the red clay than Giron and historically has played better on it. Both are not in any particular form with Giron struggling for well over a month.

Giron lost the two most recent matches he played but hasn’t played in three weeks. Some rustiness from him will be expected. Even so, this one should be up to Gaston. He can move well enough to counter Giron and the American doesn’t have the power to trouble his opponent too much.

Giron’s serve doesn’t give him much of an advantage on this surface either so Gaston will be good there as well. The American is athletic but not spectacularly quick so drop shots are a thin for Gaston as well and I think he will get it done.
