Ilya Ivashka v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head
They played four times overall with all four matches coming in the last 12 months. Both won two of those games with the most recent one in Montpellier won by McDonald 6-3 7-6(2).

Ilya Ivashka has not played many matches this year as the player from Belarus deal with some injuries.
He did not play since February and only returned in Monte-Carlo. He played rather well considering clay is not his best surface.
He defeated Pedro Martinez in two and took Stefanos Tsitsipas to three sets before losing. Overall it’s been a very positive return for him so far and he will look to keep that good trend going in Munich. He is 4-6 on the year but that will certainly get better in the following weeks.

McDonald’s Consistency Paying Off
McDonald has always been a very interesting player as the American has obvious flaws in his game but he was able to convert his talent into a pretty solid career so far. This year has been another example of his consistency as the American has a 10-11 score on the year.
It’s nothing special but it’s enough to keep him close to the top 50 which is about where he belongs talent-wise. Clay is obviously not his strongest surface and never will be because it limits what he does best and that’s serving. He is pretty good indoors, he’s great on grass and very good on hard courts.
Clay negates most of his great attributes and it’s very tricky to overcome. Recent form has been shaky with a couple of losses but most of those same against players who are better than him so it’s explainable.
Ivashka v McDonald Prediction and Tip
So these players have faced each other plenty of times before in with 4 total matches. All four of them came in the past 12 months with the most recent one coming in February in Montpellier. McDonald won that match in two sets. The other hard court match was also won by McDonald with Ivashka winning both clay matches and one of those happened in Munic a year ago.
So there is a pretty big sample size which could tell us how this match could go. Essentially Ivashka has a pretty strong case for being the winner on another clay match, especially with how they performed in recent weeks. Ivashka’s display in Barcelona should give him a lot of confidence.
For McDonald it’s not been that good recently with some pretty shaky losses but those came against better players. The Munich match was a 3-setter with Ivashka winning 6-2 6-1 after dropping the first set. I don’t expect a thrashing like that but certainly a win by the Belarussian.
