Alex Molcan v Norbert Gombos Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the Challenger circuit in which Molcan had needed three sets to overcome Gombos in that match in 2019.

He is 24 years of age and Molcan had made it to just one final on the ATP circuit before he entered the Marrakesh Open earlier this month.
There, he doubled his finals count with a solid showing that would give him some confidence under his belt coming into the rest of the clay court swing.
That’s not to do with the finals appearance alone but also because of the kind of players he overcame to get there. After an easy opening win against Stefano Travaglia, Molcan defeated three players despite going into each of those matches as a second favourite.
It started with a shock victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime, went on to a win against Botic van de Zandschulp before Molcan settled for a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Laslo Djere to make the final.
He ran out of steam in the decider as he fell to a three-set loss to David Goffin but this should be enough for him to start off as one of the players to watch out for in this competition.

Gombos 1-4 This Season
It hasn’t been the best of starts for Gombos with the Slovak having won just one of the five matches he has played this year so far.
And while he was a quarterfinalist at this event last season, that Gombos hasn’t won a match on clay this season, speaks volumes about his confidence and rhythm.
Even here in Munich, Gombos made it to the main draw by scraping through his opening qualifying win against Daniel Masur and then entering the competition as a lucky loser. What made his second round win in the qualifiers worse was it came against the 756th-ranked Marko Topo.
With that kind of a showing to kick things off, Gombos could be looking at some solid struggles in this opener.
