Kecmanovic Powers Past German Wild Card

Miomir Kecmanovic needed just 73 minutes to dispatch German wild card Max Hans Rehberg in the first round of the Munich Open on Monday.

Dominated the match from start to finish, the World No. 38 broke the 18-year-old world No. 1067 twice in each set, while saved the only break point that he faced to advance with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Kecmanovic is now one win away from reaching a sixth consecutive quarterfinal. After falling in the Round of 16 of his first three tournaments, the 22-year-old Serb has reached the last eight of the next five tournaments, but he is yet to make it to the semifinals this year.

The 2020 Kitzbuhel Open champion reached the last eight in Rio, Santiago, Indian Wells, Miami and Belgrade. What’s more he has got two top ten wins this year, beating No. 6 Matteo Berrettini in Indian Wells and No. 9 Felix Auger-Aliassime in Miami.

Altmaier Wins Battle of Germans

While Kecmanovic breezed through, his second round opponent Daniel Altmaier had to labour to a three-set win against fellow German Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round.

Altmaier, who took the first set in the tiebreak, saw the initiative slip away as the 38-year-old veteran came right back into the contest by forcing the decider. The 23-year-old raised his level in the third set though, fending off multiple break points and breaking his opponent twice in the final set to clinch the contest 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-1 in two hours and 26 minutes.

Overall, Altmaier served six aces, saved nine of 12 break points in the match and capitalised on four of six breaking opportunities.

The win is Altmaier’s third victory of the season. His previous two wins came in Pune, where he was a quarterfinalist. In the other eight tournaments that the German featured in this season, he lost in the first rounds of all eight of them.

The win over Kohlschreiber will be a huge confidence-booster for Altmaier, who is making his debut in Munich.

Kecmanovic v Altmaier Prediction and Tip

Given how Kecmanovic has been playing this season, it will be difficult for Altmaier to stop the Serb. Kecmanovic should advance with an easy win.
