Nikoloz Basilashvili v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head

They played once before and it came in 2014 at the Astana Challenger. Basilashvili won 6-4 7-6(4).

Awful Season for Basilashvili

Nikoloz Basilashvili showed a strong level last year at the Indian Wells where he reached the final. He lost to Cameron Norrie after taking the opening set explaining that some health issues that he did not want to make public hampered him in that match.

Many thought it was the start of a resurgence of the former top 20 player however it did not happen in 2022. In Australia, he struggled with some breathing issues that forced him to retire during the ATP Cup. After that he never quite found form at all.

He is currently 3-12 on the year with his most recent victory coming in Doha on February 18th. He did technically win a match in Indian Wells but it was a walkover over Fabio Fognini. All of the other matches he played have been losses including all on clay his year.

Solid Return From Injury For Ivashka

Ilya Ivashka missed a good part of the season with injuries but since his return on clay he’s looked pretty decent. Clay was never his strongest surface but he is more than capable of playing good tennis on it. Overall his best asset is that he is pretty solid all around.

Monte-Carlo was a loss against Lorenzo Sonego, in Barcelona a win over Pedro Martinez and a good effort against Stefanos Tsitsipas while in Munic he bested McDonald 6-4 3-6 6-3. It was a long and taxing match for him and he might feel the effects tomorrow.

Overall Ivashka has been pretty solid this year, much better than his opponent and he is generally more trustworthy. He’s building up confidence and form with some strong showings in the past few weeks and that will suit him well against a player who has not won in a very long time.

Basilashvili v Ivashka Prediction and Tip

Nikoloz is the more talented player overall and he had the better career so far yet lately it has been Ivashka who is more dependable. The Georgian is somewhat of a Benoit Paire-lite as he tends to throw away matches when he’s not feeling it.

He mostly does it with too many errors and that is something Ivashka can exploit. Having not won a match since February makes me unwilling to back him in this match. I trust Ivashka more, he’s played better recently and despite some fatigue worries I believe he will get it done.

Tip: Ivashka to win in straight sets: 13/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
