Miomir Kecmanovic v Nikoloz Basilashvili Head to Head

The pair have never played each other once before. This will be the first match between the 22-year old Serb, and the Georgian, who is eight years older.

Yet Another Quarter Final for Kecmanovic

Kecmanovic has maintained his consistency in Germany this week by reaching a quarter-final for the sixth time this year, although he has yet to go further in 2022.

The Serb, though, has enjoyed a relatively serene passage to this stage, with two relatively comfortable wins over German opposition.

He began with a  match against the teenager, Max Hans Rehberg, who was making his main tour debut. And, although he was not disgraced, he only managed to take five games off Kecmanovic.

Daniel Altmaier, the world number 67, seemed to be a much stiffer test on paper, but two consecutive breaks of serve enabled the number seven seed to take the first set without much trouble.

Altmaier dropped his serve again midway through the second set, briefly threatened a come back when he broke back, only to immediately drop his serve once more.

The pair swapped breaks once more, but Kecmanovic would not be denied.

Defending Champion Basilashvili

This tournament has a special place in the affections of Basilashvili because he won it last year, beating Jan-Lennard Struff in the final.

That was his fifth ATP tour success and it remains his last, although he was the beaten finalist in Qatar two months ago.

He was given a first round bye, which meant that the defence of his crown started with a match against Ilya Ivashka, currently competing under a neutral flag.

It was Ivashka who seized the initiative with an early break, and another one gave him the first set.

However, the Georgian composed himself, broke the Ivashka serve once, and then again, to level the match.

Then he broke Ivashka at the start of the third set, and was barely troubled after that. Ivashka did save a match point on his own serve, but was powerless to prevent Basilashvili serving out next game.

Kecmanovic v Basikashvili Prediction and Tip

Given that Kecmanovic has breezed into the quarter-finals, whereas the defending champion had to come from behind to win his second match, the Serb is tipped to make his first semi-final of the year.
