Maria Sakkari v Darya Kasatkina Head to Head

They played three times before with Kasatkina winning all three matches. They all happened in 2018 with the most recent one in Montreal going to Kasatkina 6-4 4-6 6-1.

Sakkari in Survival Mode

Maria Sakkari barely survived her first-round matchup against Madison Keys. It was a very close set where Sakkari should have won easier than she did but her propensity to complicate things nearly saw her ousted in the first round. Sakkari did not play too well and she’s not been playing that great lately anyways.

It’s mostly a confidence issue for Sakkari as she is still moving really well, she served well today but sometimes she simply overthinks things too much and complicates way more than is healthy. Overall it’s still a strong yea for her with a 17-7 record.

Clay is a strong surface for her as she went 9-4 on the surface last year and Madrid should give her a lot of free points with her precise serve.

Kasatkina Never Gives up

Darya Kasatkina was down a break against Coco Gauff last week in Stuttgart but she battled back to win that match. Not only did she win it but she smashed her opponent in the 2nd set. Now, one week later in Madrid, something similar happen.

She got outplayed by Anna Bondar for the better part of that match. The Russian failed to play consistently enough and never quite found her rhythm hitting from the baseline. Her opponent was simply better winning the opening set. Still with sheer determination and fight Kasatkina was able to win the 2nd set.

She also managed to battle back from a break down in the final set to win it. It was a great display of fighting spirit when things did not go that well for her.

Sakkari v Kasatkina Prediction and Tip

This is a very tricky match to predict because neither of those players played that well in round one. It’s really hard to tell whether they will turn the corner in the next match. Obviously, Sakkari is the better player overall and she’s had the better year overall however Kasatkina is strong on clay as well.

Sakkari also has the better serve which might prove crucial because the ball flies really quick in Madrid due to the altitude. Sakkari also doesn’t give much away covering the court rather well while Kasatkina tends to go on error sprees.

Overall I think the combination of all of that will give Sakkari a good chance to win it. Obviously, she could choke, like she oftentimes does but it’s not a final. Back the Greek.

Tip: Sakkari to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
