Danielle Collins v Bianca Andreescu  Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 28 year old American, and the Canadian, who is seven years younger.

Collins Overcomes Puerto Rican Wildcard

Collins was given a straightforward looking first round draw against the Puerto Rican Monica Puig, a player currently without a world ranking, not having played competitively since the French Open 2020 due to injury, and who has since begun a career in the media.

With Puig showing understandable signs of rust, Collins raced into a three love lead, but Puig then begam to get up to speed, saved several break points, and then broke the Collins serve.

The American responded with a  break of her own, only for Puig to break her once more, this time to love.

However, serving to stay in the first set, the Puerto Rican dropped her serve once more and that seemed to sap her resistance.

Collins was able to breeze through the second set in just 23 minutes, without dropping a game and conceding just the one point on her own serve.

Andreescu Proves Riske Averse

The winner of the 2019 US Open, Andreescu followed in the footsteps of Naomi Osaka by taking a mental health break from tennis after Indian Wells last October, only returning to action in Stuttgart last week.

However, she showed signs that she may be discovering some of her old form again, after beating the world number 41, Alison Riske, in the first round on Friday.

After the opening exchanges the pair swapped breaks, but then having saved a break point, the Canadian secured a break of her own, and went on to take the first set without undue difficulty.

The American, though, hit back in the second set with two successive breaks of her own, and, although Andreescu recovered one of them, Riske was able to level the match.

At that point the outcome seemed in the balance, but Andreescu then found a second wind, and Riske had no answer.

The 21-year old broke in the second game of the third set, followed that up with a second and then made it a hat-trick as she claimed the third set without dropping a game.

Collins v Andreescu Prediction and Tip

For all the disparity in their world rankings, Andreescu was a top ten player before her physical and mental health struggles and Collins will need to be wary of her. However, the American is more used to the rhythm of the tour right now, and that should give her the advantage.

Tip: Collins to win: 7/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
