Tiafoe Strikes Form in Estoril

As we write the preview Frances Tiafoe is gearing up for the semifinals in Estoril. The World No. 29 has put up three gutsy performances this week to reach the last four in Estoril.

Tiafoe rallied to beat Dusan Lajovic in a three-set first round contest, then needed three to beat Portugal’s Nuno Borges. On Friday, he ousted the fourth seed and Monte Carlo Masters finalist Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the quarterfinal to reach the first semifinal of the season. He is scheduled to play Sebastian Korda later in the day.

With the win Tiafoe is 10-7 for the season and will be hoping to get two more ahead of the Madrid Masters.

On clay, Tiafoe is 6-2 so far this year. The 24-year-old is slowly improving as a clay court player, with a 42% win record on the surface.

In Madrid, Tiafoe has a 2-1 record. He won the first two rounds but lost to Rafael Nadal in the third on his Madrid debut in 2019.

Garin on Three-Match Losing Streak

Cristian Garin has lacked consistency this season. The World No. 30 reached the third round of the Australian Open, then lost opening matches in four tournaments, before finally striking form again in Houston again, winning three consecutive matches before falling to John Isner in the semifinals.

That defeat to Isner began a three match losing streak for the Chilean, who made first round exits from Belgrade and Munich, falling to Holger Rune and Alejandro Tabilo, respectively.

With a 6-10 record this season, and a 3-6 record on clay, he will not feel too encouraged going to Madrid. But, the 25-year-old has a very good record on clay and it one good match can turn it around for him. The Chilean has more than 63% win record on clay and all his five ATP titles have been won on the surface,

In Madrid, he made his debut last year, and reached the quarterfinals by beating Daniil Medvedev in the Round of 16.

Tiafoe v Garin Prediction and Tip

Tiafoe is in better form but Garin has a much better record on clay. Expect this to be a good contest with Garin advancing.

Tip: Garin to win: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
