Jessica Pegula v Bianca Andreescu Head to Head

It’s 1-0 to Andreescu who last defeated Pegula in the 2019 WTA Newport final in three sets.

Andreescu, Getting Back her Groove

Bianca Andreescu was forced to miss most of the 2020 season and was out of sorts in 2021 on account of her knee injury. The best she could do last year was reach the Miami Open final and round four in the US Open.

The 21-year-old took some time off the tour post the Indian Wells Open and did not return to the tour until last month in Stuttgart. Playing in her first tournament in almost six months, Andreescu won her opening game over Jule Niemeier but lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the following match.

In Madrid, the World No. 111 has done well to rediscover her form; in the first round, she halted Monica Puig’s comeback while in round two, she stormed past Danielle Collins 6-1, 6-1.

That win was in line with her breakthrough journey in 2019 when the Canadian picked up three titles – US Open, Indian Wells Open, and Rogers Cup. Andreescu, however, hasn’t got a solid record on clay and considering her injury troubles, this surface may be problematic as the competition heats up.

Pegula Knocks Out Kanepi

Jessica Pegula continued her run in Madrid by overcoming Kaia Kanepi 6-3, 6-3. In the first round, she had to fight for three sets against Camila Giorgi before clinching the match 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.

The American is ranked World No. 14 at the moment – just one place shy of her career-best position on the WTA Tour. Pegula’s highlight of the season includes a semifinal run in Miami (defeating Sloane Stephens, Elena Rybakina, Anhelina Kalinina, and Paula Badosa) and a quarterfinal stint in the Australian Open.

Pegula has also got a decent record on clay; she reached the quarterfinal in Rome and round three in the French Open. While that may not be much, it is still more than what Andreescu has.

Pegula v Andreescu Prediction and Tip

Pegula is the favourite here but given Andreescu’s big serve and past pedigree, the American’s chances may not be as high as what the bookmakers make it to be.

If anything, Andreescu makes for a good bet here. After all, Pegula hasn’t been 100% consistent and has seen her fair share of shock losses. The Canadian can capitalise on this and reach her first quarterfinal in quite some time. Expect a cracking game.

Tip: Andreescu to win, Over 20.5 Games: 8/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
