Rublev In Great Touch

Red-hot Andrey Rublev is all set to begin his Madrid campaign in the second round on Tuesday.

The sixth seed Russian recently won the Serbia open title by beating Novak Djokovic in the final. It was his third title of the season, following his back-to-back titles in Marseille and Dubai earlier this year. He also featured in the semifinals in Rotterdam and Indian Wells and comes to Madrid with a brilliant 23-5 record in 2022.

The 24-year-old World No. 8 is 5-1 on clay this season and has an overall win record of over 61% on the surface, where he has won three titles.

In Madrid, Rublev is making his second appearance. Last year, on his debut he won his second round match but lost to John Isner in the Round of 16.

He will be hoping for a better display this season, particularly because he comes into the tournament in great form.

Draper Sends Sonego Packing

Wild card Jack Draper made a solid start, upsetting World No. 28 Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets in the first round.

The World No. 121 converted half of the six break points and saved three of four to win the one hour and 39 minute contest 6-4, 6-3.

With the win, the 20-year-old Briton is now 2-1 for the season. His earlier win came over Gilles Simon in the first round in Miami. It was also his only tour-level outing this year. He went down fighting in the second round of the tournament to Cameron Norrie

Draper has been in sensational form on the Challenger tour this year, winning four titles from four finals, all on hard courts.

He will be hoping to put up a strong performance in the second round against Rublev.
