Bautista Agut Breezes Past Brooksby

World No. 19 Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain demolished Jenson Brooksby of the U.S. in the first round on Tuesday.

Bautista Agut, who clinched the Doha title this year to take his tally of tour-level trophies to 10, needed just and hour and 23 minutes to beat the American 6-0, 6-2.

As a result of the win, the 34-year-old Spaniard improved his season record to 17-6 and his record in Madrid to 11-7. He was a semifinalist in 2014, but has struggled to go beyond the Round of 32 recently.

The win also means that the Spaniard is unbeaten on clay this season from his three matches. His first two wins came at the Davis Cup against Romania.

Against Brooksby, he was brilliant from the start, saving five of six break points and converting six of 11. After that sort of start, Bautista Agut will be hoping to keep the momentum going.

Evans Dumps Out Delbonis

Having won just one of his five matches on clay this season, the expectations weren’t high from Daniel Evans against the clay-court specialist Federico Delbonis, but the Briton knocked out the Argentine in straight sets on Sunday to advance to the second round.

The win ended a three-match losing streak for Evans and propelled him into the Round of 32 in Madrid for the second time. Last year he had won his first two rounds before falling to Alexander Zverev.

The 31-year-old World No. 36 was the only one to break in the first set. He also got an early break in the second set but the Argentine pulled the break back in the sixth game.

Evans would have his nose in front again in the ninth game, when he broke Delbonis for the second time in the set. He served out the set and the match in the next game to take the one hour and 37 minute contest 6-3, 6-4.

The Brit is now 10-10 this season and will be hoping to improve that record further on Wednesday.

Bautista Agut v Evans Prediction and Tip

Bautista Agut will be the overwhelming favourite to win this one. He has a 59% win record on clay compared to Evans’ 35%. Expect the Spaniard to advance.
