Novak Djokovic v Andy Murray Head to Head

This will be the 37th meeting between both players and the first since the Doha final in early 2017, won by Djokovic. The Serb leads the head-to-head 25-11.

Djokovic Continues Monfils Dominance

World number one Novak Djokovic has not had the best of seasons, beginning with his controversial dismissal from the Australian Open, followed by a third round loss in Dubai, and then not playing the Sunshine Masters due to vaccine rules in the US

The clay swing here has not been the kindest to the defending champion at Roland Garros with a loss in the Monte Carlo opener to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Djokovic was pushed to three setters in all his matches in Belgrade before a loss in the finals to Andrey Rublev including a 0-6 third set.

The number one seed here in Madrid looked at his best this season in his opener against long time rival Gael Monfils increasing the head-to-head to 18-0, with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory.

Although still not where he would like his game to be, Djokovic is getting the much needed match practice and match wins under his belt, looking to keep improving in form and confidence heading into the French Open at month end.

Convincing Back-To-Back Wins for Murray

Former world number one and three-time major champion Andy Murray continues his comeback from hip surgery two years ago and arrived in Madrid searching for his first win on clay in five years, a surface he has barely played on since his 2017 French Open semi-final loss to Stan Wawrinka in five sets.

Up against 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem, who is also making a comeback from an injury, it was vintage Andy Murray in the first round.

Murray looked by far the better and fitter player with a straight sets win as Thiem continues to search for his first main draw win since his return, losing in the first round of Belgrade, Estoril and now Madrid.

The Briton continued the good run of form winning the first set convincingly against Next Gen Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the next round.

Although the Canadian equalized the match, taking it into a decider, it was the old warhorse Murray grinding through to win a final set and booking a blockbuster third round against the best player in the world, Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic v Murray Prediction and Tip

While this match brings back a lot of old tussles between both players, Djokovic certainly starts as a strong favorite. The Serb is getting back into his groove and although Murray has looked good with two convincing wins, he will be up against it here.

Expect the Briton to show up with a fight, but the world number one should prevail in two well contested sets.

Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
