Alexander Zverev vs Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

Alexander Zverev and Lorenzo Musetti have not clashed at any level before this.

Zverev Starts Title Defense In Style

Alexander Zverev made a winning return at the Caja Magica, beating World No. 24 Marin Cilic in three sets. Cilic had upstaged home favorite Ramos Vinolas in his opening round and was brimming in confidence. But if there were fleeting doubts about Zverev’s form, he put those questions to bed with an assured comeback win.

Zverev had entered the tournament on the back of a very damaging defeat in Munich against Holger Rune, one which he labeled his worst defeat in years. However, his response was swift and impressive in taking down an improved Cilic.

Having dropped the first set 6-4, it appeared there would be a recurrence of his Munich disaster. But Zverev steadied the ship in the right direction this time as his serve and crunching ground strokes came to the rescue. Zverev was never broken from that moment on, saving all four break points in the second set to level the match.

In the decider, the German cruised at a frenetic pace, winning all 18 points behind his first serve. The lone break of serve was all he required to keep Cilic at bay and book his place in the third round.

Musetti Masters Korda

In a battle between two of ATP’s Next Gen stars, it was Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti who showed his class and held his nerve at the key moments in the match to defeat Sebastian Korda 6-4 6-3 on Court 3 on Wednesday.

Musetti, who has enjoyed some sort of renaissance on clay in recent months, picked up his 10th win on the surface and is pushing to return to the world’s Top 60. His fourth successive win at the Madrid Open (having scaled two qualifying rounds) has put him within touching distance of his career-high ranking of No. 56.

The 20-year-old neutralized Korda’s huge serve and penetrating ground strokes with his toolbox of spectacular shots including his elegant one-handed backhanded. He broke the American five times, completing the straight-set win in an hour and 36 minutes.

Musetti is now looking to reach the Madrid Open quarterfinals on his main draw debut. Can he upstage the second seed and defending champion Alexander Zverev?

Zverev v Musetti Prediction and Tip

A return to clay has clearly given Musetti a big lift. Having wandered off his game for quite a while, Musetti is now swinging freely and with ease. If he plays his cards right, he’s got every chance of upsetting Zverev, who has looked shaky for large patches of this season.

Tip: Musetti to win a set – Yes: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
