Jessica Pegula continued her impressive run in 2022 as she reached a second WTA 1000 semifinal of the season with a straight sets win over Sara Sorribes Tormo on Wednesday.
The World No. 14, who reached a second consecutive quarterfinal at the Australian Open, was also a semifinalist in Miami. She had reached her only other WTA 1000 semifinal in Toronto last year.
On Wednesday, the American was broken five times by Sorribes Tormo, but she still managed to win by breaking her opponent four times in each set. The one-hour-and-48 minute contest ended with the American winning 6-4, 6-2.
This was a third consecutive straight sets win for Pegula, who had begun the campaign with a three-set win over Camila Giorgi. She then knocked out Kaia Kanepi and Bianca Andreescu in straight sets in the second and third rounds respectively.
The 2019 Washington Open champion is now one win away from a fourth tour-level final and a first at the WTA 1000 event.

Teichmann Breezes Past Kalinina
World no. 35 Jil Teichmann breezed past Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina in straight sets on Wednesday to reach her third WTA 1000 semifinal.
The Swiss, who finished runner-up in Cincinnati and was a semifinalist in Dubai, both last year, needed an hour and 32 minutes to dispatch the World No. 37, 6-3, 6-4. The 24-year-old left-hander saved 2 of 5 break points and converted 5 of 7 to advance to the semifinals without dropping a set this week.
She defeated some big name players in Petra Kvitova, Leylah Fernandez and Elena Rybakina in the first three rounds respectively. And none of them could take a set of her.
With the win Teichmann is 12-9 for the season, and this will be her first semifinal in 2022. Her best so far was a quarterfinal finish in Dubai.
