Alcaraz Continues to Soar, Knocks Out Idol Nadal

Carlos Alcaraz’s incredible rise at the top level continued as he knocked out five-time Madrid Open champion Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals on Friday to collect one of the biggest wins of his career.

Although he has beaten Stefanos Tsitsipas when he was ranked No. 3 in 2021, but Alcaraz, would see the win over the 21-time Grand Slam champion as his biggest achievement so far and he now has an opportunity to knock out the World no. 1 Novak Djokovic on Saturday.

Having grown-up watching and idolizing Nadal, Alcaraz couldn’t quite believe that he had beaten the master in one of the biggest competitions on the tour and become the youngest ever player to reach the semifinals in Madrid.

Even a fall in the second set, which hampered Alcaraz’s movement for a while, couldn’t stop the 19-year-old on Friday. The World No. 9 came out firing on all cylinders in the first set. Both traded an early break, but Alcaraz ran away with the set, winning five of the last six games.

The fall as a result of a twisted ankle sucked the momentum out of his game as Nadal took the set in no time to force the decider.

Alcaraz regained his touch in the third set and and powered his way to a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 win. This was Alcaraz’s second straight three-set win following his tough Round of 16 victory over Cameron Norrie. Alcaraz had begun his campaign with a straight sets win over Nikoloz Basilashvili.

The win improved Alcaraz’s season record to 26-3. He has already captured three big titles in Rio, Miami and Barcelona and is two wins away from winning the Spanish double. Currently on an eight match win streak, can he extend it to nine on Saturday?

Djokovic Tames Hurkacz

World No. 14 Hubert Hurkacz is not an easy opponent to beat, but on Friday, top seed Novak Djokovic made a quick work of the Pole, knocking him out in just an hour and 22 minutes and advancing to what will be his 72nd semifinal at a Masters 1000 event. He is still four shy of Nadal’s record of 76 Masters semifinals.

In Madrid, the three-time champion will be featuring in the final four for a seventh time. Djokovic is on a seven-match win streak in Madrid, having gone on to win the title the last time he played in the tournament in 2019.

This year, the World No. 1 began with an easy win over Gael Monfils and then got a walkover against Andy Murray in the Round of 16. On Friday, he dominated the contest against Hurkacz. He won 81% points on his first serve, didn’t face a single break point and broke the 12th seed once in each set for a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Having not played for most part of the season due to his vaccination status, Djokovic faced a couple of disappointments in Dubai and Monte-Carlo, before finishing runner-up at the Serbia Open. He has continued that form in Madrid, can he go all the way to the title?

Djokovic v Alcaraz Prediction and Tip

This is going to be an intriguing contest. Alcaraz is looking unbeatable at the moment. The Spaniard also mentioned David Nalbandian, post match, as the Argentine had defeated Nadal, Djokovic and Roger Federer en route the Madrid title in 2007. And he looks very much ready to do the same.

Expect a three-setter, with the 19-year-old pulling off another colossal upset.

Tip: Alcaraz to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
