Maria Sakkari v Coco Gauff Head to Head
They played four times before with Sakkari leading 3-1. The most recent one came in Doha this year with Sakkari winning 6-3 6-3.

Maria Sakkari did not enjoy a long or good stay in Madrid as she crashed out against Daria Kasatkina. The conditions there do not suit her that well so a return to Rome excited many for her prospects. She showed why with a strong debut over Ekaterina Alexandrova who did well in Madrid because she tends to do better on fast courts.
Sakkari is a very capable defender and she gets a lot of balls back. In faster conditions player’s can attack her easier and that can be tricky for her. Rome is very slow and she has ample time to defend and attack and break down opponents with her physical nature of play.
Alexandrova struggled a lot with that and Sakkari was able to cruise in two sets. She usually has a pretty good time against Coco Gauff beating her 3 times in four matches. The only one she lost came in Rome last year so that’s something to keep in mind.

Gauff Still Strong on Clay
Coco Gauff played a superb clay season last year and this season is looking quite similar. Madrid was not so good for her as the conditions tend to be quite specific but every slower clay court suits her very well. She is one of the quickest tennis players on the court and he moves exceptionally well.
Breaking down that type of player in really slow conditions is very hard and it’s something many tennis players struggled with last year. Sakkari was one of them as Gauff took her down in Rome last year. Gauff is 14-9 on the year and 4-2 on clay.
She went 16-4 on clay last year including a semifinal run in Rome losing to champion Iga Swiatek in two sets. She will certainly fancy a similar run this year.
Sakkari v Gauff Prediction and Tip
So these two tennis players played a couple of times with Sakkari mostly dominating the H2H. She won 3 of 4 including the only one they played this year in Doha. Interestingly enough the only match Gauff won was on clay and it happened here in Rome last year.
It was a very strange match with an iconic scoreline 6-1 1-6 6-1 for Gauff. I don’t think we will see a similar one but Sakkari has been pretty shaky in the past few weeks. Gauff looks comfortable on clay and especially in Rome. She could do some damage against the Greek, especially push her to three sets.
I’m pretty sure we will see three sets but I’m not so sure Sakkari will be able to pull out a win. I could see her getting frustrated with Gauff, especially if the American plays the way she can. She looked good so far so I’ll back her to get the upset here.
