Alexander Zverev v Alex de Minaur  Head to Head

Zverev leads the head-to-head 6-1. His only loss was at the 2020 ATP Cup in Australia. They have never met on clay.

Zverev Streched In Opener

World number three Alexander Zverev ended 2021 with an impressive win at the ATP Tour Finals defeating the top two players in the world Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev.

It has not been the best start to 2022 for the German, losing early at the Australian Open and a string of poor results ranging from Montpellier to Acupulco to the Sunshine Masters.

A better showing followed to kick off the clay season in Monte Carlo with a semi-final loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas but then came the opening round loss at home in Munich to Danish teenager Holger Rune.

Defending champion last year in Madrid, it was not the best of starts to the week for Zverev being pushed to three sets by veteran Maric Cilic, but since then it was good going for the German defeating Lorenzo Musetti,  Felix Auger- Aliassime and Stefanos Tsitsipas for a spot in the final to defend his title.

In a very lopsided final it was a loss to rising Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz with Zverev only winning four games in the match.

Looking to get ready for Roland Garros, Zverev arrived in Rome hoping for a good confidence boosting run ahead of the second major of the year.

In his opener against Estoril ATP 250 winner Sebastian Baez, it was tight contest for the German with the first set going to a tiebreak and Zverev inching through. It was a better second set for the number two seed as a single break of serve and some good serving saw him through to the next round.

Zverev will look to a better performance next week onwards giving himself hope for a strong run into the weekend.

De Minaur Promising In Early Rounds

Aussie Alex De Minaur had a decent run on the hard courts earlier this year Down Under and followed it with good performances at Rotterdam, Dubai and Indian Wells.

Coming to the slower clay, it has been an adjustment for everyone with a round of 32 loss in Monte Carlo to Andrey Rublev for the Aussie. It was a much better showing by the Aussie in Barcelona, making the semi-finals and even having match points for a straight sets win against Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz.

Unfortunately, a spirited showing by Alcaraz halted that as the Spaniard prevailed in a decider winning the championship match the same day a few hours later.

It was not the best of weeks for the Aussie in Madrid losing his second match to Italian Jannik Sinner, but he arrived in Rome seeking a confidence booster ahead of Paris.

The Aussie has looked good in the first two rounds defeating Dusan Lajovic and Tommy Paul in straight sets and will look to give his best against a somewhat less convincing Zverev at the moment.

Zverev v de Minaur Prediction and Tip

This match could be a lot closer than one expects. Zverev has looked shaky this season and was stretched in his opener, where as de Minaur at his athletic best is a handful for anyone. A close three-setter with the grit of the German prevailing.

Tip: Zverev to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
