The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the two Americans.

Collins Overcomes Halep in Late Night Match

Collins, who had enjoyed a first time bye, finally made her first appearance in Rome late in the evening on Wednesday, with her match against Simona Halep of Romania, the world number 21, continuing long after everybody else had called it a day.

The first set was closely fought, with little quarter given, as the pair twice swapped service breaks.

Both then had chances to serve for the set, but, when neither could take advantage, it went toa tie-break, during the course of which Halep only won a single point.

The Romanian made a poor start to the second set, dropped her serve twice, and was soon four games down.

She steadied the ship after that and gave herself hope when she pulled one of the breaks back. But Collins extinguished that by breaking her again next game, and the proceedings were finally over for the day.

Anisimova Ousts Swiss Champion

Anisimova has been in fine form on clay this year so far, reaching the semi-finals in Charleston, and then the last eight in Madrid.

And she has continued that form into Rome, despite suffering a blip in her first round match with Tereza Martincova, where, having win the first set, she dropped the second to love, before recovering to win the match.

That earned her a second round meeting with the Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic, the world number 14, and the first set was fiercely contested, with the pair swapping service breaks early. Both fended off further break point opportunities and it went to a tie-break, which Anisimova edged.

The Swiss player then put herself on the back foot by dropping her opening two service games of the second set. She recovered one of them, but Anisimova immediately broke her again.

Bencic had another break point to force her way back into the contest, failed to convert it, and was left serving to stay in the match. The number 12 seed saved one match point, but the second proved beyond her.

Collins v Anisimova Prediction and Tip

Collins is the higher ranked player and should start as favourite, although she will hope that the scheduling allows her time to recover after her late night exertions.

Tip: Collins to win: 7/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
