Panna Udvardy v Clara Burel Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 23-year old Hungarian, and the French woman, two years her junior.

Udvardy’s Dismal Record in 2022

Udvardy made her main draw debut back in 2017 on home soil in Budapest, but it has been a long climb to the upper echelons of the women’s game, and it was not until last year that she really enjoyed a break-out season, reaching seven ITF clay finals and winning five of them.

Her record on the senior tour this year is even poorer than her opponent’s, and currently reads played seven, lost seven.

However, she can take heart from the fact that she won a doubles tournament in Germany on the junior tour earlier this month.

Burel Hoping to Find Some Form in Morocco

Burel, twice a Grand Slam finalist as a junior, is part of the new generation of French tennis players, who has enjoyed a degree of success on the ITF tour, reaching five finals last year, and winning two of them, one of those coming on clay.

And she also reached her first senior WTA final last year, beaten by the Slovenian Tamara Zidansek in Lausanne.

Progress, though, has somewhat stalled in 2022 and she has only twice got beyond the first round of a senior tournament twice, in Melbourne in January, and in Miami two months later.

She will be hooping that, during her stay in Morocco, she can find some of her best form again ahead of her home Grand Slam.

Udvardy v Burel Prediction and Tip

Neither women will feel particularly confident going into this match, given their form in 2022, The good news is that there has to be a winner, although anybody expecting a classic is likely to be disappointed.

If the Hungarian can find some semblance of her performance levels from last year on clay, she might have a slight edge.
