Daniil Medvedev v Richard Gasquet Head to Head

Medvedev leads Gasquet 2-1. He has won their last two encounters. This will be their first meeting on clay courts.

Medvedev Makes His Geneva Debut

A hernia procedure kept him out of action since the Miami Open, but the World No. 2 is returning to action this week as he attempts to win his first clay court title in Geneva.

The top seed is a 13-time champion on the tour but is yet to win one on clay courts. Out of the 23 finals that Medvedev has featured in, only one of those was on clay and that was in Barcelona in 2019, when he finished runner-up to Dominic Thiem.

He hasn’t played in another clay court final. Could it be in Geneva? The 26-year-old is still looking for his first title this season. He came very close to capturing the Australian Open title, but for the second straight year finished runner-up. Last year it was Novak Djokovic who denied him the Melbourne major, this yer it was Rafael Nadal.

The Spaniard also ended Medvedev’s run in Acapulco this year, beating the Russian in the semifinals. In his last action before the layoff Medvedev could only reach as far as the quarterfinal in Miami.

He will surely add to his 16-5 season record on his Geneva debut, but can he land a first clay title in the Swiss city?

Gasquet Too Strong for Millman

Richard Gasquet dispatched Australia’s John Millman in just an hour and 21 minutes to move into the second round in Geneva.

The 35-year-old Frenchman, who is playing in Geneva for the first time in his career, won 85% points on his first serve, saved all three break points that he faced and converted half of the eight break points that he held to win the match 6-3, 6-1.

With the win, Gasquet improved his season record to 9-8.

The World No. 75, who has a 61.7% win record on clay and has won three of his 15 ATP titles on the surface, is 5-3 on clay this season. He was a quarterfinalist in Marrakech and Estoril and will be aiming to reach a fourth quarterfinal this year with a win on Tuesday.

Medvedev v Gasquet Prediction and Tip

With a 41.7% win record on clay, Medvedev has been unimpressive on the surface so far in his career. But he will be hoping to turn things around in Geneva. He would be a bit rusty, so expect Gasquet to take him to three, but the top seed should eventually advance.

Tip: Medvedev to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
