Karolina Pliskova seems to be returning to form just in time for the French Open as the World No. 8 moved into the quarterfinals of the Strasbourg Open with a three-set win over the United States’ Bernarda Pera in the second round on Wednesday.
The top seed, who missed the early part of the season due to a hand injury, had come into the tournament with a 2-6 record. But with two wins in the tournament she has now reached her first quarterfinal of the season and that would do her confidence a world of good.
The Czech player, who had beaten Marta Kostyuk in straight sets to begin her campaign, dropped serve early in the first set, but recovered quickly with a double break to take the set.
Pera, however, made a resounding comeback in the second, racing to a 0-5 lead, before Pliskova could get on the board. But the former No. 1 couldn’t win another game as the set headed to a decider.
Pliskova regrouped in the third to dominate the proceedings and take the contest 6-3, 1-6, 6-1.
She will now aim to reach her first semifinal since her final four appearance in Cincinnati in August last year.

Zanevska Rallies Past Tan
Maryna Zanevska overcame a first-set deficit to oust France’s Harmony Tan and reach her first quarterfinal of the season.
The Belgian, ranked No. 65 in the world, saved 7 of 8 break points and converted 8 of 18 to win the two-hour-and-30-minute contest 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
It was a massive effort from Zanevska, who was down 2-4 in the second set after losing the first set.
Zanevska had beaten China’s Zhang Shuai 6-2, 6-3 in the first round. This is the first time when she has won back-to-back main draw matches at the top level. She was a semifinalist at the WTA 125 in Saint Malo earlier this month.
The Belgian will now be aiming to reach her first WTA 250 semifinal since her run to a maiden WTA title in Gdynia last year.
Pliskova v Zanevska Prediction and Tip
Having won two in a row, Pliskova will look to win another on Thursday. She will be the favourite. Expect her to advance to the semifinals.
