Andrey Rublev v Soon-woo Kwon Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Rublev had won both times. Incidentally both those matches came this year – one in Dubai and the other at Rotterdam.

Rublev Hoping to Stall Losing Streak

It’s been bit of a mixed bag for Rublev on clay with the Russian having won one title this year on the red dirt and struggled through some of the rest.

The tournament win at Belgrade Open, which included a 6-0 rout of Novak Djokovic in the final set of the title-decider was clearly his highlight but since then, Rublev has had it difficult.

He failed to make it past the quarterfinal stage at the Madrid Open, falling to Stefanos Tsitsipas but more vitally in Rome, Rublev crashed out in the second round.

The Russian fell in straight sets to Filip Krajinovic, losing 6-2, 6-4 to bow out of the tournament with a lot of questions to be answered heading into Roland Garros.

It’s not been often in recent times that Rublev has lost two matches in a row – he did lose in the second round in Miami too – but especially on clay, he will be suddenly be a lot more wary. Not his most favourite surface after all.

Kwon’s Struggled on Clay This Year

Kwon’s been playing in clay court competitions since the start of April this year, having participated in six of them. And his record has been an appalling three main draw victories and six defeats including two in the qualifiers of those competitions.

Add his career record on clay, which has Kwon winning seven of the 15 matches he’s featured in on clay and suddenly one is looking at a player who hasn’t played a lot on clay, forget win on it.

He enters the French Open on the back of a struggling first round win over Aljaz Bedene in the first round of Lyon Open but soon followed that up with a stunning defeat at the hands of Yosuke Watanuki in the second.

Watanuki was 2/1 odds for a win going into that match and Kwon will know it is going to get only that much more difficult for him come the first round at French Open.

Rublev v Kwon Prediction and Tip

Rublev might not have had the greatest of seasons on clay but against a struggling Kwon, a straight-set win looks par for the course here.

Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets: 1/3 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
