Thiem’s Won Just One Set in 2022

Such have been Thiem’s struggles, it’s almost sad to watch him find life so difficult on court.

Sure, there would be improvement soon and he should get back to where he was, or at least close to that place at some stage but for now it’s hard to see where his next win would come from.

Because since Thiem’s return to court in 2022, he has played six matches including one on the Challenger circuit and lost every single one of them. The only time Thiem did win a set was against John Millman in Belgrade, with the likes of Marco Cecchinato, Fabio Fognini, Andy Murray, Benjamin Bonzi and Pedro Cachin all downing him with ease.

One wishes there was something positive to say about Thiem but as things stand right now, the step back up to the top could take time for Thiem. And it’s at times like these, his opponent Dellien would believe he has a chance to get past the Austrian major winner.

Dellien’s Only Played on Clay

Other than a couple of matches at Davis Cup, Dellien has appeared in 14 tournaments this season including a few at the lower Challenger level and each one of them has been on clay. To say he looks reasonably prepared for the biggest competition on this surface sounds like an understatement.

The worry for Dellien is his form has been restricted to his showings in the Challenger competitions alone. At Rome, for instance, he had failed to make it through to the main draw, while in Madrid, he fell at the very first hurdle. Same with Monte-Carlo.

There have been the odd wins at Estoril and Barcelona but those have come against players who have themselves seen a lot of strife in the leadup to those matches.

Against a player who has seen a lot of such strife though, Dellien will know he has a decent chance of pulling one through and emulating his career-best showing at Roland-Garros.

Thiem v Dellien Prediction and Tip

This is an interesting one with both players starting out at 10/11 odds to scoop this. For now, backing Thiem to win this with an understanding he will start winning matches at some stage soon.
