Ugo Humbert had defeated Daniil Medvedev in the very first match of his season. But that win at the ATP Cup was followed by a host of disappointing results.
The left-handed Frenchman brings a poor 4-11 season record into his fourth French Open campaign. He hasn’t won a match in the past three editions and could remain winless after his fourth appearance as well.
What will be encouraging for Humbert in an otherwise disappointing season is his two wins on clay courts. The surface, where he has an overall record of 8-17, has been the least preferred one for him over the years. But the 23-year-old is 2-4 on it this season. He won a match against Pablo Andujar in Barcelona and Gregoire Barrere in Lyon.
While he will be backed by the home crowd, the World No. 46 will have to raise his level to overcome his poor run of form.

Ruusuvuori is 5-5 on Clay in 2022
Emil Ruusuvuori too has not won a match at the French Open, falling in the opening rounds of both his last two appearances, but unlike Humbert he has a winning record this season and has won 12 more matches than the Frenchman.
The Finn brings a 16-12 season record into the tournament. He reached a maiden ATP final at the Maharashtra Open in February and is 5-5 on clay courts this year.
Ruusuvuori had won two matches each in Barcelona and Munich to reach the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals of the two tournaments respectively. He also reached the second round at Monte-Carlo, but went down fighting in the opening round match in Geneva.

One of them is set to win his first match at Roland Garros and it’s most likely going to be Ruusuvuori, who is in better form this year. Expect the Finn to advance.
