Keys Edges Past Rybakina

World No. 22 Madison Keys moved into the fourth round of the French Open for the fourth time following a come-from-behind third round win over Elena Rybakina.

Outplayed in the first set by the Kazakh player, Keys turned the tables in the second set, before edging past Rybakina in a thrilling third set, to win the contest 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10-3) in two hours and nine minutes.

Keys, who was a semifinalist in 2018 and a quarterfinalist in 2019 will now be looking to reach a third quarterfinal at the clay court major.

She had begun the tournament with a three-set win over Anna Kalinskaya and then knocked out Caroline Garcia in straight sets. The 2017 U.S. Open finalist was a semifinalist at the Australian Open this year and won the Adelaide-2 title.

She had however, won just one match in her three previous clay court tournaments. Following a solid start at the Paris major, she will be full of confidence going into the fourth round contest.

The Russian began her French Open campaign by beating China’s Zhu Lin in three and then defeated Aleksandra Krunic in straight sets. Can she win another on Monday and make it to a first Grand Slam quarterfinal?
