Brooksby Back After Den Bosch Disappointment

Jenson Brooksby had a fairly good chance of getting into the Den Bosch quarterfinal but he completely botched it against Hugo Gaston. It’s part of a learning process for the American who showed much promise but also much inexperience.

It’s been a fairly solid season for Brooksby who is on the verge of breaking inside the top 30. He’s 15-10 on the year as he missed quite a few big events due to some injuries and getting COVID prior to the Australian Open. He’s fairly solid on grass going 4-1 last year although all of those matches happened in Newport in the States.

This year will be his full grass season but stylistically he should be good. Solid serves, solid groundstrokes an affinity for drop shots. All of that can work on grass so he just needs to stay consistent. He had a pretty good draw for a deep run in Den Bosch but ultimately he was overzealous when he was up a break in the final set against Gaston.

If he channelled that into a more steady style at Queen’s he’ll be one to look out for at Wimbledon. First things first a very tricky test in Krajinovic.

Krajinovic Back From Vacation

Well, I’m not sure he truly went on vacation but he has not played since May 27th. It’s been a minute since he picked up a racquet and some of that rest might have done him good as he’s not having a very good season. Last year was a disappointment for him but this one with a 12-11 record is even more so.

It’s a shame because when Krajinovic plays well he is very good and very hard to beat. There is much talent there but he simply can’t get out of his way. He was picking up some solid form on the clay court so perhaps some of that might transfer to grass.

He has a very solid style for grass but traditionally it never worked. He’s only 8-13 on the surface and generally does not do that well. His lack of consistency is really troubling him against players who do well on grass.

Krajinvoic is also streaky by nature so short points and rallies generally don’t allow him to play himself into a good rhythm.

Brooksby v Krajinovic Prediction and Tip

So at this stage in their careers I’d say Brooksby is a bit more consistent. And that’s quite something to say for Krajinovic who has much more experience on the tour. The Serbian simply struggled with playing consistent matches and it’s been a recurring theme for a long time now.

On grass that’s very hard to overcome and considering this will be his first match in a while I think he might be in quite a bit of trouble. It’s on Brooksby racquet but as he proved last week, he still might throw away the odd match here and there. I’ll back the American to squeeze through but I don’t think it will be that pretty.
